Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 June 2026

This page is maintained by Justine Bevilacqua (This Optimistic Life) to answer common privacy questions about The Recalibration Lab. It is specific to this app and supplements — does not replace — the broader This Optimistic Life privacy policy where the two overlap.

Who runs the Lab

The Recalibration Lab is a self-experiment tool built and operated by Justine Bevilacqua, trading as This Optimistic Life. If you have any question about your data, email justine@thisoptimisticlife.com.

What we collect

  • Account info — your email address and (if you use email sign-in) a hashed password. If you sign in with Google, only your email and Google account ID.
  • Experiment data — the protocol you choose, your interventions, daily check-ins, custom metrics, sleep/mood/energy scores, weight, and any free-text notes you enter.
  • Progress photos — only photos you choose to upload. They are stored in private storage scoped to your account.
  • Feedback you send — the content of feedback messages you submit through the in-app form.
  • Basic technical logs — standard server logs (request times, IP, user agent) used to keep the app running and secure. These are retained for a short rolling window.

We do not collect device biometrics, contacts, or location. We do not run third-party advertising trackers inside the app.

How we use it

Your data is used to:

  • Show you your own trends, photos, and history.
  • Run the features you asked for (logging, comparisons, exports).
  • Reply to feedback or support requests you send us.
  • Keep the service secure and debug problems.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your health metrics, photos, or notes to train AI models.

Who we share it with (subprocessors)

The Lab runs on a small number of trusted infrastructure providers:

  • Lovable Cloud (database, auth, storage, edge functions) — hosts your account and experiment data.
  • Stripe — handles your one-time payment. We never see or store your card details.
  • Resend — delivers transactional emails (e.g. feedback notifications to the founder).
  • Google — only if you sign in with Google.

Each is used only for the function above. None receive your photos or experiment notes beyond what is required to store and deliver them back to you.

How long we keep it

While your account is active, your data is kept so the Lab can show it back to you.

If you delete your account or end an experiment, we keep your data for a 30-day grace period in case you change your mind, then permanently delete it. Backups are rotated and overwritten within a further 30 days.

You can export everything (JSON of entries, interventions and photo references) at any time from Setup → Export my data.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time to:

  • Access a copy of your data.
  • Correct anything that is wrong.
  • Delete your account and associated data.
  • Stop processing your data for a specific purpose.

Email justine@thisoptimisticlife.com and we will action it within 30 days.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest by our infrastructure providers. Row-level security policies on the database mean your records can only be read by you. Photos are stored in private buckets, accessible only through signed URLs scoped to your account.

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you by email without undue delay.

Children

The Lab is not intended for anyone under 16. Please do not create an account if you are under that age.

Changes to this policy

If we materially change how we handle your data, we will update this page and notify active users by email before the change takes effect.
