Terms of Use

The Recalibration Lab is a personal self-experiment tool. You pick one variable to change, log how you feel, and see your own data. It is built and operated by Justine Bevilacqua, trading as This Optimistic Life.

The Lab is not a medical device, medical service, or substitute for professional advice. Nothing in the app, in Wren's prompts, or in any in-app copy constitutes medical, psychological, nutritional, or fitness advice. Wren is a friendly guide, not a clinician.

Always talk to a qualified health professional before starting, stopping, or changing any treatment, supplement, exercise, or diet. If you experience anything concerning, stop and seek medical help.

You are solely responsible for the interventions you choose to run on yourself.

• You must be 16 or older to create an account.
• Keep your login credentials private. You are responsible for activity under your account.
• One account per person. Don't share logins.
• Provide a real email so we can reach you about your account.

The Recalibration Lab is sold as a one-time purchase (currently US$37) for lifetime personal access at the feature set available at time of purchase. We may add new features over time but do not guarantee any specific feature will be added.

Because the Lab gives you immediate, full access to design and run experiments, log data, and export your results, purchases are non-refundable. If something is materially broken or not as described, email us and we'll work it out with you.

"Lifetime" means the operational lifetime of the product. If we ever have to shut the Lab down, we will give active users at least 60 days' notice and a way to export their data.

Don't:

• Use the Lab to harass, harm, or impersonate anyone.
• Upload content that isn't yours or that breaks the law (including non-consensual images).
• Try to break, scrape, reverse-engineer, or overload the service.
• Resell or sublicense access to the Lab.

We may suspend accounts that break these rules. Where appropriate, we'll explain why.

The data you enter — interventions, daily logs, custom metrics, notes, and photos — is yours. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display it back to you so the app can function. That's it. We do not use your content for marketing, training AI, or anything else without your explicit consent.

You can export and delete your content at any time from Setup.

The Lab's design, copy, Wren character, illustrations, code, and brand are owned by This Optimistic Life. You may use the app for personal self-experimentation. You may not copy substantial parts of the interface, character art, or written content for your own product.

We aim to keep the Lab running smoothly, but we don't promise uninterrupted availability. We may take the app down for maintenance, change features, or fix bugs without prior notice. We'll try to warn you for anything significant.

To the maximum extent allowed by law, This Optimistic Life and Justine Bevilacqua are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the Lab, including any health outcomes from interventions you choose to run. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid for the Lab.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited (for example, in Australia, the non-excludable consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law).

How we handle your data is described in our Privacy Policy.

We may update these terms occasionally. For material changes, we'll notify active users by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Lab after that means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless your local consumer law requires otherwise.
